The University of Michigan cannot be excellent without being diverse in the broadest sense of that word. We also must ensure that our community allows all individuals an equal opportunity to thrive.
Our work to improve diversity, increase equity and promote inclusion at the University of Michigan is moving forward, thanks to the efforts of many individuals in our community.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are a major focus of my presidency.
During the Fall 2015 semester, we formally launched the strategic planning process for diversity. There are more than 80 individuals serving as planning leads from each of our schools, colleges and campus units. They are spearheading the planning process within their units and coordinating with the overall university effort.
I am proud to take on this work with members of our community at the University of Michigan. I encourage all students, faculty and staff to get involved in the process and contribute to the conversation.
