As important, this website is the main point of entry to the university’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategic planning process, which is now in full swing.

We have undertaken this endeavor because diversity, equity and inclusion increase the scope of academic potential throughout the university.

At a pre-plan dialogue in February 2014, a member of the university community commented that, “Martin Luther King Jr., had a dream not a plan.” Although scholars of Dr. King’s life and work will tell you he had both a plan and a dream, this comment is important because it reminds us that the most successful plans are fueled by passion as well as pragmatism.

That is why our objective is to devise a strategic plan that reaches beyond paper, pen and PowerPoints to the minds and hearts of the entire U-M community.

As a community, we can and will accomplish this with candor and respect, individual points of view and collaboration. Your considered opinion and insight are key to this process.

Together, we can build a quality dialogue that contributes to a more inclusive, equitable and diverse campus community and ultimately moves us forward. There are a variety of ways to engage.

Participate in town halls and other strategic planning events at the university level and in your school, college or unit.

Your ideas and suggestions, your viewpoint and comments will help imbue the plan with dreams that can and will be fulfilled.
