Mosaic Imagination is an ODEI student showcase designed to ignite student engagement and deepen our commitment to democratic values and civic action. This event will be a dynamic platform where student voices drive the future of campus culture and policy.

As a collective, students will showcase how their organizations are shaping a better imagined and civically engaged campus through innovative, impactful, and exciting programming. Through creative expression and meaningful dialogue, participants will highlight how their organizations plan to actively bring democratic principles to life.

The showcase will culminate in a democratic vote, where attendees will have the opportunity to decide the allocation of grant resources. Your voice matters—be part of this transformative experience and help shape a campus that is both inclusive and actively engaged in democratic action.

Funding support for this event is provided in collaboration with the U-M Year of Democracy, Civic Empowerment, and Global Engagement

Proposal Requirements

This showcase addresses a gap in student-centered events focused on democracy and civic engagement on our campus. Your organization will have the opportunity to:

  • Present your vision through creative modalities (eg. panel discussions, dialogues, performances, cultural representations)
  • Connect with other student organizations
  • Secure funding for implementing your ideas ($500 for up to 8 participating organizations and additional funding for top proposal ideas)
  • Participate in a democratic process by voting for the top proposals
  • Contribute to a more civically engaged campus community through the implementation of your proposed ideas

The showcase models democratic processes by combining elements of town halls, participatory budgeting, and public forums – demonstrating democracy as both a system of governance and a way of life in our campus community.

We strongly encourage applications that feature non-partisan perspectives, showcase ideological diversity, and demonstrate a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach.
