Community of Cultures Digital Ad-01 (1)On Friday, April 7, from 3-6 p.m. in Pierpont Commons and the Duderstadt Center, experience a festival of art, culture, community and unity. There will be performances, exhibits, cultural food samples, conversation circles, TED-style talks, Title IX presentation, information and activity stations, a Cube art project, photo booth, giveaways and University VIPs!

List of Participating Organizations, beginning at 3 p.m.:

  • Active Minds at the University of Michigan: raises mental health awareness among college students

  • Artists of Color in Ann Arbor: a place for artists and students of all ethnic backgrounds to feel safe, included and celebrated on campus

  • Assisting Latin@s to Maximize Achievement: assists first-year students in obtaining and developing a strong academic and professional background to promote personal and cultural growth throughout their college careers

  • Assyrian Student Association: uplifts an ancient culture through language, tradition, and celebration while supporting humanitarian organizations that help populations in countries faced by war

  • Bursley Multicultural Council: creates a safe, welcoming, enlightening, and educational environment for all the residents of Bursley Hall by increasing awareness of multicultural issues and setting examples of model behavior together

  • Center for Campus Involvement: creates transformative experiences, a vibrant community, and lifelong memories for U-M students

  • Ethiopian-Eritrean Student Association: promotes an active social, cultural, and professional network for the Ethiopian and Eritrean community on and around U-M

  • International Center: provides services and programs for the diverse U-M community by serving the international population, facilitating intercultural and international education, and fostering a global campus community

  • Javanese Gamelan Student Group: provides a relaxed, welcoming environment for U-M students to learn and practice Javanese gamelan music

  • Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.: provides a sisterhood based on unity, love, and respect, and serves as a voice for the Latino community

  • Leim Irish Dance: teaches and brings the fun of Irish Dance to our campus community

  • LGBT Michigan: brings together LGBTQ identified people at U-M

  • Malaysian Students Association: provides a home away from home for Malaysians studying at U-M

  • Michigan Sahana: fosters a thriving and active Indian classical community that increases general awareness of the Indian arts, cultivates talent within the community, and produces quality performances

  • Michigan TAAL: a female, South Asian fusion, competitive dance team incorporating a variety of styles such as Bollywood, Bhangra, Hip-hop and Classical

  • Mongolian Cultural Organization: introduces Mongolian culture, tradition, language, and history and promotes closer educational relations between the U.S and Mongolia

  • Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs: engages the campus community and transforms the student experience, through the lens of race and ethnicity, to build inclusive spaces and equitable opportunities for all

  • PERMIAS Michigan: promotes Indonesian culture at U-M and provides a home away from home for Indonesian students

  • Pretty Brown Girls: celebrates the beautiful shades of brown skin all over the world, while inspiring positive self-esteem and confidence

  • Salto: a student-run ballet and lyrical dance group

  • Sinaboro: a traditional Korean drumming group at U-M

  • Spectrum Center: creates an inclusive campus community free of discrimination in all forms where social justice inspires community engagement and equity

  • STAMPS in Color: explores and facilitates the experience of artists of color in the School of Art and Design, as well as provides a space for promoting art activism

  • Student Legal Services: advises U-M students regarding their legal rights

  • The Raas Team: a cultural, competitive dance team dedicated to spreading the culture of raas to U-M students

  • Trotter Multicultural Center: promotes and provides services to build a supportive environment in which all students can develop a better understanding and appreciation for the multicultural diversity represented at U-M

  • University Musical Society Student Committee: promotes UMS and its programs to U-M students

  • Yoni Ki Baat: raises awareness around social justice issues, especially those pertaining to South Asian women and all women of color.

  • 58 Greene: a multicultural a cappella group at U-M

  • Persian Students Association: celebrates and raises awareness of the Persian culture

  • The Coalition for Queer and Trans People of Color: builds community around and highlights the lived experiences of queer, trans, and similarly identified people of color

Visitors may park in designated spots in the lots behind the Art and Architecture Building (NC43) or Lurie Biomedical Building (NC60). Students and visitors may also take Commuter North, the Diag-to-Diag Express, Northwood, Northwood Express, Bursley-Baits, or Commuter South from a variety of central campus pick-up locations to the drop-off at Pierpont.
