Assessing DEI Progress
As DEI 1.0 – the first five years of U-M’s DEI Strategic Planning and Implementation Process — has successfully concluded, the DEI 1.0 Evaluation Year (AY2021-22) provides an opportunity to assess longer-term measures, not only in the demographic composition of U-M units and campus over time, but also any shifts in climate and key indicators of equity and inclusion across all populations.
The self-evaluation by each unit and the campus-wide summative evaluation will help the University determine the following:
- the extent to which DEI goals of institutionalizing and creating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive campus have been achieved;
- which DEI efforts could be expanded or should be phased out;
- what areas related to DEI may need more attention and/or improvement; and
- the initial strategic priorities for DEI 2.0.
DEI 1.0 Evaluation Toolkit User Guide
The DEI 1.0 Evaluation Toolkit User Guide provides an overview of the unit self-evaluation process and proposed timeline for the evaluation year. In addition, it will make connections between the evaluation process and the work that units have done during DEI 1.0.

Reporting Templates & Reporting Form Links
Links to the DEI 1.0 Evaluation Reporting Templates and Reporting Forms are made available on this webpage. Units should plan to download and use the Reporting Templates BEFORE engaging with the online Reporting Forms.
The Reporting Templates will contain all of the questions that will be asked in the Reporting Forms, so unit DEI Leads are encouraged to distribute the Reporting Templates to their evaluation team and other unit members responsible for reporting on the unit’s DEI efforts. DEI Leads can collect all of the information needed to answer the questions BEFORE engaging with the online Reporting Forms. The Reporting Form links will direct DEI Leads to the Qualtrics platform where all questions will be answered and submitted online for each Phase of the DEI 1.0 Evaluation reporting process.
